The Ultimate Summer Home Improvement Checklist
Summer is in full swing. With the high temperatures and low precipitation, it’s the perfect time to tackle all those home improvement tasks you’ve been putting off all year long. Follow our ultimate checklist to preserve your home’s value and keep your family safe.
Bathroom – Clean or replace your showerhead, clear the bathroom drain and clean the vents of your bathroom fans.
Bedroom – If you haven’t already, consider getting your a/c serviced to increase its lifespan and prevent it from malfunctioning and potentially causing a fire.
Living Room – Dust your ceiling fan blades and reverse the direction it spins. If your fan spins counterclockwise, it will push the air straight down to your home keeping it nice and cool.
Kitchen – Pull out your fridge, clean behind it and vacuum the coils in the back to keep it running smoothly.
Laundry Room – Clear all lint and debris trapped in the vent and exhaust duct of your dryer. You can go a step further and vacuum the lint out from deep within the hose.
Deck – Replace any rotting or damaged boards. Hammer in any nails that are loose. Check if it needs resealing by pouring a little water on it, if the water creates little puddles you’re good, if it sinks into the wood you should get it resealed for the winter.
Windows – Wash your windows and screens with a mixture of warm water and soap. Replace any screens with tears or rips to avoid pesky bugs from getting inside.
Faucets & Hoses – Check all outdoor faucets and hoses for leaks. You can waste a lot of water from the smallest hole in your hose. Use electrical tape to repair these small holes.
Gutters – Clear away all debris from your gutters and make sure the downspouts are positioned away from your home.
Landscape – Trim back any bushes or trees, especially those near your property or power lines.
Roof – It’s important to properly maintain your roof in the event of a storm. Do not climb on to your roof. Make a list of any damage areas, such as missing shingles and trouble spots, then give us a call.
